Youngstown, OH (February 10, 2023): The Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theatre has announced auditions for the production of Newsies Jr. Open auditions will be held on Wednesday, March 8 and Thursday, March 9 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at The Youngstown Playhouse.

Based on the real-life Newsboy Strike of the late 1800’s, this Disney musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city. After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly and his fellow newsies take action.

Seeking actors 10 to 18 years old. Actors should come prepared with a 16 bar song in the style of the show to sing acapella and to participate in a group dance call.

The creative team is led under the direction of Savannah Teter, stage managed by Caitlyn Santiago, and choreographed by Wayne Bonner III. Rehearsals will begin Monday, March 20, with a script read-through and will run Monday to Thursday evenings. Technical rehearsals will occur the week of May 15, and performances will take place on May 19, 20, and 21.
