The production team for The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon! is committed to celebrating individuals’ talents and consciously creating equal and inclusive opportunities for performers. ABOUT THE SHOW

In The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon, Two narrators attempt to recreate all 209 of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm in a wild, fast-paced extravaganza. To make it more difficult, they attempt to combine them into one gigantic fable using Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and other more obscure stories like Lean Lisa and The Devil’s Grandmother. A wild, free-form comedy with lots of madcap fun.

All Auditions and Callbacks will take place in the Moyer Room of The Youngstown Playhouse (600 Playhouse Lane Youngstown, OH 44511). To navigate to the Moyer Room, enter the Youngstown Playhouse from the Main Entrance and continue passed the stairs to the right and continue to the back of the building. The Moyer Room is right next to the Concession Stand.

REHEARSALS

First Rehearsal – Monday, July 31st

Rehearsals will be held Mondays-Thursdays from 5:00-7:00pm. (Full Company will not be required at all rehearsals)

First Tech Rehearsal (No Conflicts Permitted past this date) – Sunday, September 27th Time TBD

PERFORMANCES

All performances take place on the Main Stage of The Youngstown Playhouse

Performances:
Friday,  October 2, 2026 – 7:30pm
Saturday, October 3, 2026 – 7:30pm
Sunday, October 4, 2026 – 2:30pm

*There will also be TBD School Performances during the day on Thursday October 1st and Friday October 2nd*

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

Director Shiloh Hart is seeking a cast of as many as twenty 8-18 year olds for this Youth Production. Interested performers should be confident readers and excited to collaborate and create with other performers. 

Auditionees should either prepare their own 1-3 minute comedic monologue or choose ONE of the prepared monologues by clicking HERE. These monologues should be memorized. Auditionees will audition one at a time. 

Please show up at least 5-10 minutes before your scheduled audition time to fill out paperwork. Walk ins will also be accepted. 

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

The Hosts

• Narrator 1 & Narrator 2: The energetic, frantic guides of the show. They try desperately to mash all 209 Grimm fairy tales into a single coherent story while arguing with each other and managing chaotic actors.

Core Fairy Tale Leads

• Snow White: A classic princess-type character who complains about her unfair treatment and having to clean up after dwarves.
• Cinderella: Kind, helpful, and fond of animals, though caught up in the frenzied pacing of the narrators’ mashup.
• Rapunzel: Depicted with a comedic, modern twist as a moody or loopy maiden with dramatic hair issues.
• Hansel & Gretel: Young, European-accented siblings whose classic woods story gets turned upside down.

Villains and Weird Creatures

• The Witch / Witch 2: Loud, evil, and broad theatrical presences.
• The Devil & The Devil’s Grandmother: Wicked, mischievous character types who pop up to complicate deals and bargains.
• Rumpelstiltskin: A manic, gnome-like trickster who spins straw into gold.
• The Talking Fish & Crab People: Bizarre, random creatures pulled from lesser-known fables to add to the absurdist humor.
