THE YOUNGSTOWN PLAYHOUSE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR MISERY
Youngstown, OH (June 26, 2023): The Youngstown Playhouse has announced auditions for Stephen King’s horror masterpiece Misery. Open auditions will be held on July 16th and 17th starting at 6:00 pm in the Moyer Room at The Youngstown Playhouse.
Successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon survives a car crash thanks to his rescuer, Annie Wilkes, his “number one fan.” Paul wakes up captive in her secluded home, while on the mend Annie reads his latest book and becomes enraged to find out the author has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. The irate Annie forces Paul to write a new version of the novel as if his life depends on it, and it does.
Seeking to fill the roles of Paul Sheldon (male identifying, any race, 40-50’s) and Annie Wilkes (female identifying, any race, 30-50’s). Those auditioning should be prepared to read from the script. Please note that Misery is a physically demanding show that requires bending, kneeling, lifting, rolling, and engaging in aggressive choreographed stage combat. The play also contains violent scenes and adult language.
The creative team is led under the direction of Christopher Fidram and includes Caitlyn Santiago (Stage Manager) and Leslie Brown (Lighting Designer). Rehearsals will begin in late August. Technical rehearsals will occur the week of October 23 and performances will take place October 27, 28, 29 and November 3, 4, and 5.
