Youngstown, OH (May 4, 2023): The Youngstown Playhouse will present The 39 Steps, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan. Directed by Johnny Pecano, the production will run June 16 – 25, 2023 on the Main Stage.

A fast-paced spoof of the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock film of the same name, The 39 Steps, follows an “everyday man” who meets a woman, a spy. When he brings her home, she is murdered. The next thing he knows, an organization called “The 39 Steps” is hot on his trail and determined to find him. A blend of upbeat and inventive performances will have the audience on the edge of their seat in this mysterious comedy. The 39 Steps was last on stage at the Playhouse in 2012, this production will reunite 3 of the original 4 cast members as tribute to the 2012 production’s director, David Jendre.

The creative team is led under the direction of Johnny Pecano and includes Caitlyn N. Santiago (Stage Manager), Joanna Andrei (Movement Coordinator), and Leslie Brown (Light and Scenic Designer).

Director Johnny Pecano said, “I am so excited to reunite the cast that performed The 39 Steps in 2012 with the exception of Rob Morris, whose role will now be played by Jeanine Rees. I look forward to seeing our community laughing together at this hilarious show.”
