Youngstown, OH (March 3, 2023): The Youngstown Playhouse will present Pass Over, by Antoinette Chinonye Nwandu. Directed by Dr. Lundeana Thomas, the production will run April 14 – 23, 2023 in The Moyer Room as part of the Griffith-Adler Series.

Pass Over, written by Antoinette Chinonye Nwandu, takes the audience into the lives of two African American males who spend day and night on the curbside under a street lamp post passing the time, and hoping that maybe today will be different. As they dream of their promised land, a stranger wanders into their space with his own agenda and causes unnecessary trouble. Emotional and lyrical, Pass Over exposes the raw spirit of these young men stuck in a cycle just looking for a way out.

The creative team is led under the direction of Dr. Lundeana Thomas and includes Caitlyn Santiago (Stage Manager), Dr. Tom Copeland (Scenic Design), and Leslie Brown (Lighting Designer).

“This provocative play, Pass Over, demonstrates how racial inequality calls into question citizens’ very humanity not only in each other’s eyes but in their own,” says director, Dr. Thomas. “Watch the efforts of Moses, Kitch, Mister, and Ossifer to put themselves in each other’s shoes, testing their compassion, weighing their mutual tolerance and mutual aversion.”
