YOUNGSTOWN, OH; (September 4, 2024) The Youngstown Playhouse has announced auditions for The Thanksgiving Play. Auditions will be held at the Hopewell Theatre, 702 Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44502, September 7, 8, 9, 2024. Please contact Nick Mulichak at mulichak@gmail.com to schedule an audition. The Thanksgiving Play will be presented in the Moyer Room at the Youngstown Playhouse, November 15-24, 2024.

Cast Requirements: 4 adult characters (2 males/ 2 females)

• Logan – a high school drama teacher, desperate to save her job by creating a culturally sensitive Thanksgiving play. 
• Caden – an elementary school history teacher helping Logan maintain historical accuracy in the play
• Jaxton – Logan’s yoga instructor boyfriend who is overly concerned with political correctness.
• Alicia – a professional actress hired to provide Indigenous perspective, but is not actually Indigenous herself.

At the audition, you will be asked to read from the script. While not required, you may also prepare a short (1-2 minutes) monologue to showcase your talents. This is especially helpful if you are not comfortable with a “cold read.”

The Thanksgiving Play is a satirical comedy written by Larissa FastHorse. The Thanksgiving PLay follows four white individuals who are determined to create a politically correct First Thanksgiving play for Native American Heritage Month in schools. 

Without an authentic Native voice, Logan and her team – which includes her partner Jaxton, an overly earnest actor, and Caden, an enthusiastic yet clueless history teacher – are forced to confront the complexities of privilege while adhering to historical accuracy and school district rules. Meanwhile, they begin to understand the challenges of performative activism and of trying to address cultural issues without genuine understanding.
