Youngstown, OH (February 9, 2022): The Youngstown Playhouse has announced auditions for the May production of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Open auditions will be held on March 7th and 8th from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm in the Adler Art Academy at the DeYor Performing Arts Center. Based upon the Victor Hugo novel and the Academy Award-nominated Disney film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame features a lush, emotionally rich score by Alan Menken (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast) and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin), in the only stage collaboration between these two masters of contemporary musical theatre. When the bell-ringer of Notre Dame escapes his captivity for a day, he meets Esmeralda, a free-spirited Romani dancer who inspires Quasimodo to discover his humanity, passion, and courage, as the outcast becomes the hero of us all.

Seeking actors 18 years or older. Actors should be prepared to learn and execute a group dance routine and bring comfortable clothing and footwear for movement. Actors should prepare two contrasting traditional musical theatre songs. Please audition with a 16 bar cutting of your vocal selection, but be prepared to sing the entire number if asked. All slides for speaking parts will be provided.

The creative team is led under the direction of Trevail Maurice Smith and includes Mazhorell Johnson (Musical Director), Kiara Jones (Choreographer), Anthony Coot Madison (Stage Manager), Jacinda Madison (Production Manager), Brian Palumbo (Costume Designer), Jack Hanna (Set Designer), Ellen Licitra (Lighting Designer), and Johnny Pecano (Tech Designer).

Callbacks will take place on March 9th from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Rehearsals will begin Monday, March 28, 2022, and take place from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm Monday through Friday. Technical rehearsals will occur the week of May 23, 2022. Performances will take place May 27, 28, 29, and June 3, 4, and 5.

The Youngstown Playhouse requires vaccinations for all eligible individuals as a condition of casting and participation. Vaccination cards will be required at auditions. Exceptions will only be made for participants under the age of 12 or participants with medical conditions.
